No, not the Bond villain, this is a different villain, namely Frau Irene Engel from Wolfenstein. Come to think of it, she's also not a man, ignore that title, it makes no sense. Nick Brick built this ornate beauty, using only official LEGO pearl gold elements. This is a build restriction that would challenge even the best builders, but Nick pulls it off beautifully.
She's an absolute icon, and synonymous with all things Disney. She started every TV show and ends the fireworks show at Disneyland. She is if course Tinkerbell. This rendition by reticence is instantly recognizable and absolutely magical. Fun fact: the first lady to make the flight as Tinkerbell was the legendary Tiny Kline, a 70 year old circus performer. The best part is how she ended every flight, by slamming into a mattress held by two dudes.
Any time I hear "Queen of hearts" two things happen: I think of the character from Disney's animated classic Alice in Wonderland (not the Burton film, she was just weird) and that terrible song (which will now be stuck in my head the rest of the damn day). I would really like to shift those things to this imposing but beautiful lady by builder LegoWyrm, I'd much rather think of her. Of course we'll have to wait and see (fingers crossed). But for now, the terrible song continues in my skull...
I don't watch many parades, even the ones at Disneyland, but when I do I'm hoping to see things like this fantastic Ninjago float by builder LegoFjotten. With a little animation and some smoke effects, can you imagine the children's faces when this thing rolled down the parade route?
Fun fact: when I was about 10 years old my brother and I got to ride a float in our little town's annual Flower Festival. Every year, a bunch of locals will fashion crude floats around old junker cars, slather them with glue and fasten millions of flowers to them. Another fun fact: said glue will also fasten children to said float, resulting in ruined pants, emergency response crews and many tears.
I love cheeseburgers, it's one of my favorite foods. I could be within walking distance of a multitude of restaurants, perhaps even Michelin star rated ones, but I'd be just as happy at In-N-Out. And now of course I'm going to have to have a burger for lunch because of this awesome MOC by nobu_tary. It's also the first use of the new Unikitty base I've seen and it's brilliant.
If there's one thing that AFOLs are keenly aware of it's that LEGO is not cheap. And most of us are pretty OK with that, understanding that quality is worth paying for, and that the bricks hold their value. What better way to symbolize this than to build big piles of money like theworldinbricks.
Those of you who's faced the wrath of the great pirate LeChuck might recognize this face. That's right, it's Guybrush Threepwood, the main character of the amazing Lucasarts Monkey Island games, and owner of quite possibly the greatest name in adventure game history. We spent many happy hours (and a few frustrated ones) playing those games, and seeing this awesome bust by SuckMyBrick brings back a lot of memories.
I don't fish, or at least I haven't since I was a child. I also don't do boats, unless it's a Disney cruise ship. I also don't eat much fish (but I do enjoy a good fish & chips). So I'm at a loss to explain why I love this little fishing boat by builder Know Your Pieces. Perhaps it's because of the splendid color scheme and building techniques. Or maybe because it's built out of my favorite toy, I just don't know.
It's hard to resist the urge to put on some leathers, grab my helmet and hit the trail when I look at this marvelous dirt bike by ianying616. Then I remember I don't have leathers, a helmet (unless you count my stormtrooper helmet, does that count?) or anything resembling a motorcycle. I'll just admire this MOC, it's pretty rad.
One of the concepts of Pokemon is they are "pets" that you collect and care for (and then force to fight each other, go figure). But in my opinion there's actually only a handful that I think I'd enjoy having around. Pets give us companionship and unconditional love, at least that's the point I think. I wouldn't mind having a Pikachu around, they're pretty cool. And my personal favorite is Cubone, I have no idea why. And Eevee, brilliantly built by reticence here, seems like a pleasure to have around. But can you imagine a Mr. Mime hopping on the bed with you to watch TV? I'd be creeped out the whole time. And Magicarp is useless, your argument is invalid.
I love the retro-future look of this dashing young lady by builder Kingmarshy. Meet Miss Utopia, pioneer of the future, exploring the solar system with her trusty robotic companion, GD-801. They both look ready for adventure, and for the cover of a classic 50's sci-fi pulp novel or movie poster. Wherever it is, I want to follow that adventure.
Builder Zilmrud packs a whole lot of storytelling and callbacks in a very small space. It sort of reminds me of when Genie says "Phenomenal cosmic powers...itty bitty living space". All the major characters are represented here, in a wonderful display built for his wife. Nicely done sir, nicely done.
While I'm a purist when it comes to building, for animation I break all the "rules" all the time. We glue parts, drill them, cut them and modify them to make them work for the project, it's just practical to get the job done. I know it would make a lot of you cry to witness all that activity with tools and bricks in the same space, but here's a fascinating animation by BricksBrosProductions that has both, and as far as I can see, no bricks were harmed in the making, enjoy!
For as long as we've been building machines to go reasonably fast, there's been a select few who make them go unreasonably fast. And with the invention of the internal combustion engine, the speed (and the stakes) got even higher, and we've been fascinated since. Like this scene marvelously recreated by builder Pixeljunkie of 1929 Monoco Grand Prix featuring his beautiful Bugatti, the crowd loves it.
Builder M<0><0>DSWIM imagines the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast with a little less romance and a lot more machine oil. Meet Belle and the Beast, two mobile suits that are turning this story on it's head. I do have to wonder how it might be possible for beast to imprison her in his castle, I think she'd just kick his ass.
When traveling along classic Route 66 be sure to stop by Radiator Springs! I was fortunate enough to see this awesome recreation of the town from Pixar's classic Cars in person at BrickCon last year. Builder Keith Reed has faithfully recreated the entire town, from Mater's junk yard to the town hall, all the buildings are there. Need some tires? Stop in at Luigi's. Hungry? Head over to Flo's. You can spend an entire day here, you just need to get off the interstate.
Isn't it funny how sometimes a MOC takes on a life of it's own? You set out to build one thing, but through whatever magic the bricks get their way and you end up building something else. That's sort of the origin story of this brilliant AT-ACT by Ben Cossy. What started as a little Scarif scene evolved into this colossal minifig scale walker.
This entry into the 2018 Summer Joust by Grant Davis is one of those MOCs that keeps you looking. There's so many details, techniques and cool part combinations that you can stare at it for whole minutes. Grant promises a video later this week featuring construction techniques and how it was built, you can bet I'll be tuning in.
This trio of fantastic builds and shots comes to us courtesy of the mad skills of Travis Brickle, Simon NH and Ralf Langer. The task was to show a medieval building process, so the team each built one part and assembled them into a three panel triptych. The lighting in these shots is top notch, building a real mood.
Parents out there will probably appreciate the subtle nuance of this MOC by SuckMyBrick, especially if you have two or more children. It's amazing how when something goes amiss how everyone is innocent, like the missing banana in this scene. I suppose it's feasible the frog ate it, but what's behind you back there monkey? Let me see your hand...your other hand...
