Pigs...In...Spaaaaaace!

Grubaluk's Muppet Show theme continues with everybody's favorite space-faring even-toed ungulates.  On the bridge we've got Dr. Julius Strangepork, Captain Link Hogthrob, and of course, First Mate Piggy.  On the screen, the evil Dearth Nadir, played by Gonzo.  The nose is a bit of a giveaway.  You may recall Grubaluk's Muppet Show Band a few months ago.  Can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

AVISPA IP-NU3V3

Check out this nifty starfighter by F@bz.  Certainly a unique design combining both armored bulk and lightweight airfoils.  Gotta love the use of those skateboard ramps in the nose assembly.  It even carries a little rover in the back.  Swooshable and practical, a winning combination!

Not sure why the driver looks so perturbed, must have been a rough landing...

Colonial Mining Ship

My good friend and fellow Battlestar Galactica fanatic, Garry King, has outdone himself with this colossal Colonial Mining Ship.  It was featured in the 2003 re-imagined series as well as the original 1970's show, with only brief appearances outside the standard Fleet shots.  However, the scale, at twelve feet, yeah, you read that right, and jaw dropping attention to detail, this SHIP is the star of the show!  So Say We All!

Here she is on public display in Tasmania, a Bricknerd exclusive!

Batman vs. Superman

Thorsten Bonsch has created this nifty moc exclusively for Blocks Magazine.  It's a lighthearted take on the recent movie concept.  Instead of tearing apart Metropolis, they've opted to take Martha Kent's suggestion to try some one-on-one basketball to settle their differences.  You might have noticed there was a little incident with Clark's heat vision, but looks like Mr. Kent has it under control.

The People of Laaf

Look how fun this is!  Koen has recreated a small village called Lavenlaar from an amusement park in The Netherlands.  It's inhabited by mischievous folk called Laafs, according to the builder.  Naturally there's a windmill, and a bakery, even a brewery.  I wonder if that's what makes these folks mischievous?

Anyway, what impressed me were the comparison shots between the actual park and the LEGO.  A truly remarkable reproduction--I'll drink to that!

Destination Wedding

Built for the Wedding Planning category in the MocAthalon on MocPages, W. Navarre has created this amazing cliff hangar train-going-off-a-bridge scene.  "Build your ideal wedding"  He's got bandits, a demolished bridge, and a rocky cliff.  The bride, the groom and the pastor are all at the front of the train as it hurtles towards the abyss.  Now that I think about it, that's pretty much how most people feel on their wedding day, at least a little bit.  Scroll through his post on MocPages to see it all up close, especially that rattly bridge.  Wonder where the lucky couple will go on their honeymoon?

Pullman Dining Car

There was a time when people traveled in style, and eight course meals with white glove service was certainly an important part of that.  Imagine Rigney has built, for the Colorado Railroad Museum's Eating on the Rails exhibit, this luxurious Pullman dining car.  According to Imagine, this train car wasn't designed for any particular gauge track or scale, but is as accurate as possible for a mid nineteenth century dining car.  The interior is stately, with all the appointments one would expect during this era, including the fully stocked bar.  "I'll have a single malt, neat, my good man!"

Spectre 501

Behold:  The Spectre 501 Long Range Recon Shuttle by Michal Kazmierczak!  As you can see, this thing is a monster, covered with all sorts of greebly goodies.  But what intrigues me the most is that Michal will be using this ship, and its multitude of access points, as the main setting for a sci-fi comic.  It's designed to open, as shown in the second pic, and even come apart for the purpose of photographing the crew and machinery within.  So stay tuned!

RED3

Sci-Fi guy ska2d2 has returned to minifig scale with this nifty rig.  You may recall his micro fleet posted back in December. What I like about RED3 is there's no pretense of aerodynamics.  Bulky and practical, no frills save the black and yellow checker details.  Scroll through the photostream to see some nice up-close shots, like the retractable cockpit action.  And good luck finding an exposed stud on this baby.  I couldn't.

Apogee: Space Cargo

As part of a challenge among the builders on Brick Pirate, Xavier Clement has created a unique and asymmetric cargo craft.  His intention was to build a ship with the same spirit as the Millennium Falcon, ready to take on that Kessel Run at a moment's notice.  Now, with Xavier having thrown down the gauntlet, the other forum members are supposed to remix this design/color scheme, and build their own version.  Should be interesting... Punch it, Chewie!

The Elder Scrolls-Orsinium

My friend and fellow VLUGer Thorsten Bonsch has created another marvel of LEGO design.  There are so many aspects of this build to enjoy, but in particular, the seamless path really jumps off the screen, looking like it was printed.  I also appreciate the building-in-progress scaffolding mixed with the textured stone work.  Very convincing.

Rolls Royce Springfield Silver Ghost Playboy Roadster

Speaking of the contest on LUGNuts, my pal Firas Abu-Jaber drew #1 in a list of 100 predetermined cars.  Not only did he build an amazing replica, but he's also got the hood ornament and the external trunk to boot.  Check out the link to Firas' in-depth write up and tons of extra pics on MocPages

El Laxante!

This thing is just awesome.  Andy, aka D-Town Cracka, has come up with a seriously modified 1974 Chevy El Camino SS.  Apparently there's a contest going on at LUGNuts called the 100th Build Challenge.  This is #74.  Get it?  "Chopped, bored, jacked and tracked", this baby's got all the features you'd need at a monster truck show, Sunday-Sunday-Sunday!  Kids 12 and under enter free.

Lord of the Rings LEGO Pinball!

Okay, so we're throwing the "don't blog the same builder more than once a day" thing out the window.  Again.  Jonas has built this amazing and fully functional LOTR pinball machine for the Iron Builder contest on Flickr.  Naturally, it makes me think about how I'd build a Battlestar Galactica pinball, but that'll have to wait. Check out the video!

Unplanned Maintenance

I really like this shot!  It's one of those scenes where it seems like just another day at work, but you know that something horrible is about to happen.  It reminds me of the beginning of an old X-Files episode, for those familiar with Fluke Boy.  Conspiracy theories aside,  Justin M Winn has been experimenting with a Brickstuff lighting kit, and I'd say it's been a success.  Can't wait to see what happens next!

Review - LEGO Architecture Venice 21026

Review - LEGO Architecture Venice 21026

A few weeks ago, Tommy asked if anyone on the Bricknerd Team wanted to do a review of one of the new LEGO Architecture sets.  Yes!  I volunteered for Venice.  My wife and I went to Venice on our honeymoon, and I had been there a few times before.  Tommy informed me that I should be on the lookout for a box from Billund, so I waited anxiously by the mailbox. But since it’s February in Vermont, my wife suggested I come inside.  Good thing too, it was almost two weeks before it arrived.
