The Night Is Dark, And Full Of MOCs

Rumored author of the year 2016 (really George, knock it off) and legendary book and HBO series Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin never looked better than in brick form on the Throne of Swords. I've been a fan since 2004 and can hardly wait for the series premiere tomorrow night, and this MOC just made it all that more exciting. Thanks for stoking that fire mandrakesarecool2.

In The Not Too Distant Future...

Next Sunday A.D.
There was a guy named Joel,
Not too different from you or me.
He worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
He did a good job cleaning up the place,
But his bosses didn't like him
So they shot him into space.

We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la-la-la).
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
And we'll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind Joel can't control
Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
Because he used those special parts
To make his robot friends.

Robot Roll Call: (All right, let's go!)
Cambot! (Pan left!)
Gypsy! (Hi, girl!)
Tom Servo! (What a cool guy!)
Croooow! (Wisecracker.)

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
and other science facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, "It's just a show,
I should really just relax
For Mystery Science Theater 3000!"

Ella "Tall Tide" Kneebone

The life of a pirate isn't all clashing sword fights and plundering treasure. Sometimes you just need a break from all the piracy and adventure on the high seas and just have a sit down. Like Ella "Tall Tide" Kneebone here, I can't decide if she looks pensive, exhausted or just bored. But judging by that treasure, she's earned a little "down time".

Cyclops

Poor cyclops, he gets such a bad rap. Centuries of stories and horrible accounts have left him on the outs with a reputation for aggression and violence. The truth of the matter is with no depth perception he has a bad tendency to bump his head on the ceiling of his cave, which would leave anyone in a continual bad mood. Combine that with the inability to see The Force Awakens in 3D and I just feel sorry for the guy. Another stellar build by LEGO 7.

Space Monkey

I only discovered builder LEGO 7 last week when I blogged his marvelous Darth Vader sculpture and scene. I don't think this is old enough to qualify as MOCstalgia being as it's from last January, but I missed it then and it's time to correct that oversight. Meet Space Monkey, an awesome intergalactic chimp. I love the subtle pose-ability and expressive eyebrows of this character build. He seems to be part of a bigger story, a story that I want to know.

Batman v Superman

I saw BvS opening day, and it was pretty disappointing. But then again I always thought the concept was a bit silly, or I wouldn't have made my own version. But that doesn't mean I don't like the characters any less, and I certainly dig this MOC by cid1943. The split screen effect here with daylight Metropolis and the man of steel on one side and dark Gotham and the dark knight on the other is super effective.

Panda Mech

If you're going to build a giant robot to pilot around and do battle, why not do it with a little panache? It doesn't have to look like all the other giant robots right? Sure Mechagodzilla looked like a giant lizard, and Mechani-Kong looked like an ape, but they were both sort of ugly. The Panda Mech by Dvd however...well it's adorable and deadly at the same time!

Gundam

Here it is, the one that started it all, the grandaddy of all mechs, Gundam RX-78-2 by nobu_tary. There may have been other giant robots before, but this is the one that turned mecha anime into a thing. Originally airing in 1979 this guy is probably older than many of you reading this post (but not me, man I'm old) but I'm guessing you've seen him before. That's staying power, and a testament to his pedigree.

Blitzcrank

My boys are going to dig this MOC by The real Eric Tsai, unlike me they actually play this game (sometimes for days at a time, get a job!) and know the characters. I dig it because it's a cool design, it's well built and has personality. A quick Google search (yeah, I'm that lame) reveals this guy to be steam powered, which makes him even more endearing in my book.

Gotta Build Them All!

Once upon a time Pokemon was huge at my house. Both of my boys went through phases where all that was talked about was how to be a good trainer and how to catch them all. Now builder Takamichi Irie has started a series of fantastic MOCs bringing these pocket monsters to life. The addition of the collector card for each Pokemon is a brilliant touch. Maybe he'll eventually get to my personal favorite, Cubone. Photos by willgalb.

Dogmatix

European readers are more likely to recognize this canine character,  It's Obelix's trusty terrier Dogmatix (AKA Idefix) from the Asterix and Obelix comics. I've never read the comics, but I'm familiar with some of the characters, and instantly recognized this little guy. Builder grubaluk perfectly captures his character in this highly pose-able MOC.

Archimedes

Disney's The Sword in the Stone has a bit of a checkered past. Though officially considered a moderate success by the company, it has never caught much traction. This is a shame because while it's a bit uneven, it's actually a good film. Archimedes, here brilliantly recreated by Legohaulic, is a stand-out character. If you have the opportunity, give this film a chance.
